In Telangana’s capital, Hyderabad, a gang of people cloning fingerprints for fake usage in biometric attendance reports was busted by the city’s police on Wednesday. The gang was cloning fingerprints of faculty members in colleges and were later selling them for making money.

According to Anjani Kumar, Police Commissioner, three persons were arrested, Vice Principal of Vivekananda Group of Institutions, Poreddy Sudershan Reddy, Bomma Ramakrishna, an associate professor and Sriram Prasad, a private employee. Meanwhile, a suspect, Gopal Reddy (Secretary of Vivekananda Group of Institutions) is absconding.

The gang would illegally prepare and sell cloned fingerprints to educational institutions who might then use it to show false online attendance to JNTU officials, duping them in the process. Among various things, the police have seized 60 cloned fingerprints and a sum of Rs 3 lakh.
