A first year student at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi attempted suicide on November 8 and succumbed next morning in AIIMS hospital at about 5 AM.

As per the sources, the first year student identified as Ananya Gupta was pursuing B.Tech (CSE) at IIT Delhi. On Friday, she attempted to take her life and passed away on November 9 at AIIMS hospital.

Sources informed Newsd that moments before Ananya took the extreme step, she was with her mother. However, the reasons for her action remains unknown.

The university has launched an investigation into the matter. More details awaited in the matter.

To everybody’s shock, this was the second suicide attempt reported in the week. Earlier this week, a research scholar at IIT Delhi allegedly committed suicide in her room on Tuesday evening.

As said in the reports, Manjula Devak (28) was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room at Nalanda Apartment on the campus. The police received a call around 7.45 pm from a friend after which a PCR van reached the spot and took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Manjula, a civil engineer pursuing a PhD in water resources, had earlier worked in the US but returned to join IIT Delhi. Originally from Indore, Manjula lived in the apartment with husband Ritesh Virha. No suicide note was found in her room.
