Income Tax Offices Open March 29-31 Despite Weekend: Any Income Tax office in the country has been told by the Union Finance Ministry to stay open on the last Sunday of this month, as the financial year comes to an end.
A Ministry order from March 18 says that all Income Tax offices in India will be open on March 29, 30, and 31, 2024.

This order came from the Central Board of Direct Taxes under section 119 of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
Four things make March 31st a big day for people who file taxes:
You have until March 31 to invest in a tax-saving tool for FY 2023–24 if you choose the old tax system. Section 80C lets you write off amounts paid for health insurance, home loans, school loans, PPFs, and ELSSs (or term savings). That was the case before Sections 80D, 80G, and 80CCD(1B) were added.
Certificates of Tax Deductible at Source (TDS) filing are due in January 2024 for deductions made under different sections. Statements of adjustments made under Sections 194-IA, 194-IB, and 194M must be turned in by March 30.
The last day to join the PPF and SSY plans is March 31. For these plans, the least amount you can invest is Rs.500 and Rs.250, respectively. A fee will be charged if you don’t make this deposit. If you don’t, your account will be marked as default.
