Instagram 2025 Updates:Instagram which is owned by Meta had a strong year in 2025. The app reached a huge milestone of three billion monthly active users. The company said messaging, Reels, and smart content suggestions helped this growth the most.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri shared that the company worked hard to better organise content on the app. As 2025 comes to an end, it is a good time to look back at the major features Instagram added this year. These updates focus on giving users more control, better sharing tools, and new ways to connect with friends.
More Control Over Content
One of the biggest updates came in December with the launch of the ‘Your Algorithm’ tool. This new AI-powered feature lets users control what kind of content Instagram shows them. Instagram plans to add it to other parts like Explore and also release it in more countries outside the US.
Watch History
Instagram also added a Watch History feature in October. This feature lets users see all the Reels they watched earlier, even if they did not like or comment on them. Users can find it by opening the menu, going to Settings, then Your Activity, and tapping Watch History. This makes it easier for people to find videos they enjoyed before.
Reposts
In August, Instagram introduced a new Reposts tab. This feature allows users to repost content, which then appears to others. Followers can see reposted content with a small repost icon. A new Reposts section also appears on user profiles and shows all reposted posts in one place.
Maps
Instagram also launched a new Map feature that lets users share their location with friends. This tool shows the last active location and content posted from different places. Users can choose who sees their location, and the feature stays off by default unless users turn it on themselves.
Smarter Messaging
Another helpful update lets users schedule messages. People can now choose to send messages at a later time by pressing and holding the send button. They can also set reminders using this tool, making chats more flexible and planned.

Profile Cards and Other Updates
nstagram added Profile Cards which are digital cards users can share with others. Each card has a QR code that opens the profile directly. Users can add a short bio, links, music, a background, a photo, and even a custom emoji. This makes sharing profiles more fun and personal.
Instagram also changed how profiles look by updating the grid layout. Posts now appear in 3:4 tiles instead of the older square style. The app also increased Reels length to 20 mins. Carousel posts now support up to 20 photos or videos in one post. Another feature called Trial Reels lets creators test Reels with non-followers first before showing them to their main audience.
