At least 24 people were killed while 13 were injured after a minibus carrying passengers fell into a deep gorge along Keshwan-Thakrai road in Jammu’s Kishtwar district on Monday, July 1.
Local residents said the bus was on way to Kishtwar from Keshwan when it skidded on the road near Srigwari and fell into a deep gorge.
The locals immediately swung into action to bring the dead and the injured on the road. The police and security forces from nearby areas also reached the site to launch a rescue operation.
As quoted by several media reports so far, officials said that the accident took place at 8:40 AM when the minibus was heading towards Kishtwar from Keshwan. Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Angrez Singh confirmed the death toll saying, “Thirty were killed and seven critically injured.”
Officials further told the reporters that the injured have been shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar for treatment. Rescue operation has been launched at the spot.
Reports claimed that the passenger vehicle, a minibus bearing registration number JK17-6787, was on its way to Kishtwar from Keshwan when it skidded off the road near Srigwari and fell into a deep gorge. Locals said the vehicle was over loaded.
