JU Prof Row: Students reveal more misogynist incidents; action to be taken assures VC

Jadavpur University professor is again making headlines for all the wrong reasons. After making lewd remarks on women and comparing virgin brides to sealed bottles, the students of the Jadavpur University have revealed more such incidents wherein the professor, Kanak Sarkar has made disgraceful comments on their female students.

Taking to the social media, students said his misogyny was not limited to his Facebook account. Narrating the ordeal, a student revealed that  Sarkar demeaned her in front of a class of 52 students, remarking on her pjysicaal appearance.

With user name Adrija Chatterjee, student said, “I was giving a presentation in class one day and this man (Kanak Sarkar) interrupted me in the middle, and I thought it was to ask me a question. However, to my absolute dismay, he asked me if I want to grow up and become a model since my figure is very model like. He also asked me if I have a lot of male friends because according to him, I’m what men would enjoy.”

Another student named Heba Ahmed told that in order to avoid his sexiest and denouncing comments on girls, she had to often bunk the classes.

Now, students at Kolkata’s Jadavpur University have demanded the immediate removal of Sarkar. Taking to the streets, the students raised slogans against Sarkar and demanded his immediate removal.

Reacting to the situation, Jadavpur University vice-chancellor Suranjan Das said that strict action would be taken against the professor for his Facebook post comparing virgin brides to sealed bottles. He in his statement said, “It is a very unfortunate incident. Such statements are not desired from a university professor. I have received a complaint regarding his statements and action as per law will be taken.”

However, the professor has told the media that he didn’t want to hurt anyone’s sentiments and he regrets it if anyone is hurt by his words.
