Canadian singer Justin Bieber has been slapped with cease and desist letter from the electronic music duo Justice relating to his album cover and merchandise.

The French Band has claimed that the singer infringed on Justice’s trademarked “cross logo”. It said that Justin did not seek permission to use the font for his new album.

According to a report in Rolling Stone, the letter states, “Your use of the Mark is illegal. You have not received permission from Justice to utilize the Mark. Moreover, Bieber’s work is in no way affiliated with, supported by, or sponsored by Justice. Such use of the Mark is not only illegal, but likely to deceive and confuse consumers.”

The letter is also said to contain an alleged email from Bieber’s team to Justice’s management, dated April 19, 2020, in which they ask for help in finding the designer who created their logo. After the two parties were put in touch, it’s claimed that Bieber’s team then quickly stopped communicating with the designer, who declined to comment on the issue.

Despite the letter, Bieber has pushed forward with the Justice release on March 19. The singer is releasing a line of new clothing including a sweatshirt featuring a cross on the front Justice’s debut 2007 album, dubbed “Cross” by fans, features a similar cross on the album cover as well as a “Justice Cross Hoodie,” which fans of the group claim is reminiscent of the font used for Justice’s 2019 film Iris: A Space Opera.
