LG summons Sisodia to tackle capital’s health crisis

LG Najeeb Jung has asked deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia to cut short his trip to Finland and return to Delhi. Chief secretary Kewal Sharma had been asked to send an email and contact Sisodia’s hotel. With eight chikungunya deaths in the capital, the ruling AAP govt has been facing a lot of flak for the absence of its ministers from Delhi.

This is perhaps the first time that a minister has been asked to cut short his trip and return to tackle and epidemic. Sisodia left for Finland September 12 to attend a conference on education. He was scheduled to return on September 17.

Earlier on Friday, an angry Sisodia responded to all the flak that he was receiving and tweeted that he was abroad for an educational tour. On Friday, photographs of Sisodia having ice cream and getting photographs clicked in Finland surfaced in Delhi, drawing sharp reactions from the opposition.

Replying sharply he said, “India’s education is in a mess and people are trying to defame me while I’m making efforts to improve it in Delhi.Learning from across the world is not a sin. It’s a sin to defame an educational tour as a `holiday’. If you have the guts, show these pictures and tell the country what I am doing in Finland for the last three days,” he said in a series of tweets. He added: “We need to learn a lot from their education system, the best in the world. I have visited approximately a dozen schools, colleges, skill centers and universities in the last three days. Have met senior officials of education ministry , educators, principals, teachers, students and others. We have worked hard in Delhi on improving education and now we’re here to see what more needs to be done. To fix the problems of Delhi’s education system, I’ll do whatever is needed. Whatever trolls may say! I am not on holiday.I met people from Brazil, China, Gulf and other countries, trying to understand best practices from Finnish education.”
