BACKGROUND

Luann de Lesseps was born LuAnn Nadeau in Berlin, Connecticut, and she grew up with six siblings. Her maiden name reflects her father’s Algonquin and French ancestry, as well as her mother’s French Canadian ancestry. While little is known about her early life, de Lesseps has revealed that she was the softball team captain in high school. She became a licenced practical nurse in Connecticut, but soon abandoned this profession for a modelling career, entering the Miss Connecticut competition. She did not rank, but was discovered by a talent scout who entered her in a New York-based modelling competition where she won. Luann commuted to New York as a model for six months prior to relocating there permanently.

The New York way of life did not meet her expectations, so she moved to Milan with her partner at the time. In Milan, she severed ties with him and competed in another beauty contest, earning quick cash while traversing Italy. Lesseps secured a position as the host of an Italian television programme despite her limited knowledge of the language. She met Count Alexandre de Lesseps at a dinner party in Switzerland, and after a very brief courtship, they became engaged. They embarked on a frenetic honeymoon of travel. De Lesseps and the count expanded their family rapidly, welcoming Victoria and then Noel just 21 months apart.

de Lesseps suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder:

The family spent their summers in the Hamptons and their remaining time in the Swiss Alps. After a car accident in which no one was injured, de Lesseps suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and the isolating impacts of their remote Swiss residence. Desperate to create something of herself, de Lesseps decided to return to New York and resume her television career. She met actress Jill Zarin while working on a small show, and Zarin shortly asked Lesseps to join the main cast of “The Real Housewives of New York.” In 2008, when the show premiered, de Lesseps’s star was created. She was a prominent character for five seasons before becoming a recurring ‘Friend of the Housewives’ in season six. During this period, she wrote “Class with the Countess: How to Live with Elegance and Flair,” which was released in 2009. Due to the strain of her career on her marriage, de Lesseps and the Count divorced the same year, but she retained his name and the honorific ‘countess’ designation.

The following year, she branched out into music with the release of the single ‘Money Can’t Buy You Class.’ In 2011, she appeared in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and released her second single, “Chic C’est la Vie.” In 2013, de Lesseps accepted a diminished role on “The Real Housewives of New York.” She released another single, ‘Girl Code,’ two years later, and married Tom D’Agostino Jr. in late December 2016, officially relinquishing her ‘countess’ title, although she continues to use it.

Arrested for public intoxication:

However, the marriage did not endure, and they divorced within a year. Early in 2017, de Lesseps was cast in the indie film “Maternal Secrets.” In Florida, she was arrested for public intoxication, assaulting a police officer, and other offences in late 2017; it was around this time that she first ran into legal difficulty. The following year, she was charged with a third-degree felony, but it was withdrawn after she pled guilty to misdemeanour charges and entered an alcoholics’ rehabilitation programme after her release. In 2018, she hosted her own cabaret show titled “#CountessAndFriends” and performed songs about her life alongside prominent guests, before touring with the show. In 2019 and 2020, de Lesseps released two more singles with Desmond Child, titled “Feeling Jovani” and “Viva La Diva.” Her most recent appearance was in the “The Real Housewives of New York” spin-off series “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip” in 2021.
