Lupus Alert Day 2023: Lupus Alert Day is an annual observance held on April 1. This event was established to raise awareness of lupus and offer support to the millions of individuals affected by this condition. Lupus is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which the human immune system, which is designed to defend the body, attacks tissues and organs. In most cases, severe organ injury results. Even though there is no cure for the disease at this time, it can still be managed with early medical intervention. This emphasises the significance and necessity of Lupus Alert Day.

HISTORY OF LUPUS ALERT DAY

Lupus Alert Day was established in 2000 by the Lupus Foundation of America. There was an urgent need to inform the public about the hazards of lupus, also known as systemic lupus erythematosus. (S.L.E.). The day was created to raise awareness about the causes, risk factors, symptoms, and treatment of the disease. According to research, approximately 16,000 Americans develop lupus annually, and 90% of its victims are female. Due to the similarity of its symptoms to those of milder illnesses, the disease may be difficult to diagnose in individuals aged 15 to 44.

Due to the disease’s complexity, physicians from the 18th to early 19th century had difficulty diagnosing it. In 1948, however, a team of researchers at the Mayo Clinic made a significant breakthrough that led to the diagnosis of 60 percent of lupus cases. To aid in the diagnosis of lupus, the American College of Rheumatology (A.C.R.) published a list of detailed diagnostic criteria for SLE in 1971. The criteria included symptoms that the patient could identify, such as rash and pain, as well as those that a physician could detect through a physical examination and laboratory tests. Over time, as more and more discoveries were made, the list improved.

Eleven-question lupus quizzes can be completed online, and people are constantly encouraged to do so in an effort to raise awareness, diagnose early causes, and advance vital research.
