Madhya Pradesh: Bundelkhand University official website hacked, obscene video put up

Amid the coronavirus pandemic when the schools and colleges remain to be suspended, schools and colleges are being troubled by the hackers. In a hacking incident, Madhya Pradesh Bundelkhand University’s official website was hacked and an obscene video was linked to the website.

The University administration has, however, removed the video link.

According to the University Registrar, the hackers have linked an obscene Facebook video with the university’s official website. The shameful move was intended to harm the reputation of the University. A case against the hackers will be registered in the cybercrime branch, he added.

In the midst of the COVID-19 situation, there also have been many cases of hacking and other cyber crimes related to online classes in schools and colleges. Earlier in June, the Karnataka government issued an order banning online classes up to Class 5. According to the order, schools affiliated to different boards, including ICSE, CBSE, state boards, and international boards, were directed to stop holding online classes for students from Kindergarten to Class 5.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) in April wrote to Gujarat Director General of Police after a hacker breached into an online class of a university and started masturbating.

Cyber experts said that during the lockdown they have received around 100 complaints of cyber-bullying and extortion. Experts warn that children need to be made aware of the risks of online predators who can easily gain access to personal information.
