12:40 PM | 64 by-elections in other states

By-elections in 64 constituencies across Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Meghalaya, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. Votes will be polled on October 21 and the results will be declared on October 24, the Election Commission said.

11:40 AM | Election Commission expected to announce poll dates at noon today, September 21.


The Election Commission is expected to announce Assembly poll dates in Maharashtra and Haryana on Saturday, September 21 in a press conference scheduled to begin at noon 12 pm.

The election process will begin in the states and the Model Code of Conduct will come into force as soon as the poll panel’s press conference concludes.

The term of 288-seated Maharashtra Assembly will end on 9 November, while the 90-member Haryana Assembly will expire on 2 November.

A poll panel meet was reportedly convened on Friday to take a final call on Assembly poll dates. The meeting was attended by the officials of the two state Election Commissions.

Last time around the commission had announced the dates for the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections on 12 September. The voting had taken place on 15 October and results were announced by 19 October.
