A man has been arrested for allegedly posting fake news on Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb’s personal life. H was remanded on Sunday in police custody for two days on charges of forging documents.

The man identified as Anumpam Paul was absconding since April 26. He was arrested by the crime bench of Tripura Police from New Delhi on Wednesday.

The police have registered an FIR against the man for forgery, cheating, and conspiracy after the April 25 Facebook post that went viral on social media.

Anupam was produced before the court on Sunday who remanded him police custody for 2 days. He will again be produced before the court on Tuesday, said police.

However, the chief minister has described the post as a deep-rooted conspiracy to tarnish his image. He said, “It is a baseless and motivated post which is in bad taste.”

Also, the state BJP has demanded strict action against the guilty.

A police constable and a journalist were arrested on April 28 for sharing the Facebook post and both of them are now out on bail, said the officer.
