Pradyot Debbarma’s Strategy Pays Off
Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma had campaigned aggressively across tribal regions and had publicly predicted that his party would win 24 out of 28 seats. The prediction has now turned out to be correct.
He structured the election campaign to focus on indigenous rights together with regional identity and the fulfillment of promises made to tribal communities.
The Tripura election results serve as a warning sign for the BJP which will need to face upcoming elections. The party faced difficulties in gaining support from autonomous council areas despite having governance advantages in the state.
The BJP had contested all 28 seats independently and campaigned heavily but Tipra Motha retained strong grassroots support in tribal constituencies.
