Masik Karthigai 2022: According to the Tamil calendar, February 9 is the monthly Karthigai Deepam. Karthigai Deepam is celebrated every month in South India.

On this day Lord Shiva Shankar and Lord Murugan are worshiped according to the rituals.

On this day, after sunset, they decorate their homes with kolam and lamp oil.

It is said that Karthigai Deepam is named after Kritika Nakshatra.

It is believed that the festival of Karthigai Deepam is celebrated on the day when Kritika Nakshatra is very strong.

There is a tradition of lighting a lamp of sesame oil or ghee on this day. Monthly Karthigai is also known as Karthigai Deepam.

Karthigai Deepam Shubh Muhurat:

Monthly Karthigai Deepam Tithi starts – 9th February at 8.30 pm,

Monthly Karthigai Deepam Tithi ends – on February 10 at 12.23 am.

Masik Karthigai Katha:

According to the legend, once upon a time there was a dispute between Lord Brahma and Vishnu over superiority.

Both started proving themselves superior and the dispute was increasing. In this situation, to resolve the dispute, Lord Shiva transformed himself into a divine light, after which he asked both the gods to find the end and end of that divine light.

This Jyoti form of Lord Shiva is worshiped on Karthigai Deepam.

Karthigai Deepam Puja Vidhi:

  • On this day, wake up early in the morning at Brahma Muhurta and take a vow of fast before God after retiring from the bath.
  • Light a lamp in the house of worship.
  • Worship Lord Shiva according to the law.
  • Worship Lord Shiva Shankar with white flowers, fruits, incense, lamp, incense sticks, perfume, honey, cannabis, datura etc.
  • Keep fast for the whole day remembering Lord Shiva.
  • Recite Shiva Kavach at the time of worship of Bholenath.
  • At the end of the puja, after the aarti-archana, pray for prayers.
  • In the evening, at the time of auspicious time, light the lamp and invoke Lord Shiva.
  • If you are not able to fast for the whole day, then you can do a fruit diet.
  • After the next day, after worshiping God in the morning, break the fast by taking food yourself.
