The celebration of Shivratri is significant for those who worship Lord Shiva. Masik Shivaratri occurs on the Chaturdashi Tithi during the Krishna Paksha of each and every Hindu calendar month.
Those devotees who choose to observe the Masik Shivaratri Vrat have the option of beginning the fast on the day of Maha Shivaratri and continuing it for an entire calendar year.
Masik Shivaratri December 2022 Date: December 21, Wednesday.
Puja Time: December 21, 11:58 pm – December 22, 12:51 am.
The person who is observing the Shivratri Vrat is required to get up very early in the morning, wash themselves thoroughly, and dress in clean clothes.
An important aspect of the ritual is the application of vibhuti and the donning of a Rudraksha mala.
On this day, the person who is observing the vrat is required to go to a Shiv Temple and perform a ritualistic bath of the Shiv Ling using water, milk, honey, and any other beneficial things.
When the bathing procedure is complete, kumkum and turmeric are next put to the Shiv Ling. In addition to this, a garland of pink and white lotus flowers is presented to the deity.
The act of worship also includes the lighting of incense sticks and the ringing of bells located inside of the temple.
The devotees should follow the fast for the entirety of the day and recite the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” while staying up throughout the night.
On this special occasion, Prasad in the shape of fruits is presented as an offering to Lord Shiva.
The following day, the fast is broken by consuming the prasad in order to break the fast.
