Miniature Golf Day 2023

Miniature Golf Day 2023: Miniature Golf Day is celebrated globally on September 21, not to be confounded with National Miniature Golf Day, which is observed in the United States on the second Saturday of May. Miniature golf dates back to the nineteenth century. It was created in Victorian Scotland to enable women to play golf, as it was deemed unladylike for women to raise a golf club above their shoulders at the time; therefore, regular golf was out of the question. Miniature golf is now played by women, men, and children around the world.

DAY IN THE HISTORY OF MINIATURE GOLF

Although the exact origins of Miniature Golf Day are unknown, the origins of miniature golf are. Mini-golf is no exception to the rule that a lack of inclusion can lead to innovative concepts.

Before feminism movements swept the globe, it was considered “unladylike” for women to engage in many physical or sporting activities, such as golf. In Victorian Scotland, women were prohibited from raising golf clubs above their heads, rendering golf impossible. Instead of lamenting or abandoning golf, the Ladies’ Putting Club of St. Andrews devised a miniature version in 1867. Take note, males!

Prior to the late 19th century, very few people outside of Europe had even heard of, let alone played, miniature golf. After its introduction to the United States, its popularity skyrocketed.

Although ubiquitous in the United States, miniature golf was once exclusive to hotels and opulent private resorts. The games weren’t precisely accessible to the masses. Due to the lack of inclusion once more, a brilliant idea was conceived. In 1916, North Carolina native James Barber established Thistle Dhu, the first classic miniature golf course. By the early 1930s, mini golf had become a popular recreation throughout the United States.

While still played with a series of nine or 18 holes, miniature golf courses are shorter, usually themed, and have a variety of obstacles that add to the difficulty of the game. Due to a group of courageous Scottish women and a North Carolina man, miniature golf is accessible to the general public and is played by people of all ages and religions throughout the globe.
