Nagaland encounter: Three militants killed, Army officer martyred

Nagaland encounter: Three militants killed, Army officer martyred

In an encounter in Nagaland, three militants were killed and one Army officer was martyred, the force said on Wednesday. The officer of the Territorial Army lost his life during the battle with terrorists in Nagaland’s Mau. The encounter broke in the early hours of Wednesday.

Additionally, one civilian and three more jawans have been reported to be injured in the ongoing operation.

In an encounter with suspected insurgents of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), an Army captain and a civilian were injured on June 2. According to police, the encounter took place at Raimora in Gossaingaon area on Thursday night. However, the Tuesday night encounter at Tijit near Lappa of Mon district also left three soldiers injured. The militants were believed to be from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent).

Army spokesperson, Lt Col, Chiranjeet Konwer, told HT that, “The incident took place around 10 pm. Based on information about the movement of terrorists, the officer and his team went to the area when they were ambushed and an encounter ensued. The encounter is over and combing operations are underway”.
