Club council members yearly compile the “Naismith Watch” ranking of the top fifty collegiate basketball players in men’s and women’s divisions. Additionally, the committee announces thirty midseason Naismith contenders. The Naismith Trophy awards the player of the year in men’s and women’s college basketball. A prestigious national voting academy made up of basketball administrators, coaches, and journalists chooses the winner. This organization evaluates player performance throughout the season and narrows the field to four finalists.

Who Casts Naismith Award Votes?
The Atlanta Tipoff Club established the Outstanding Contribution Award in 1982 to honor basketball’s best. The 1987 Naismith Men’s and Women’s College Coach of the Year requirements were modified in 1989. After replacing the NCAA Division I Tournament Champions’ coaches, the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors picks the winners. Voters vote on the top 25 coaches for each category, then cut them to four finalists before deciding the national champions.
Naismith Trophy Boys’ and Girls’ Player of the Year are the best high school basketball players. It was started in 1987. The board chooses the top 10 winners. They added Naismith High School’s Boy’s and Girl’s Coach of the Year in 2008 to improve high school recognition.
The 2018 Naismith Awards named men’s and women’s college defensive players of the year. The Naismith Awards Week announces the men’s and women’s Final Four winners, a fitting finale to the collegiate basketball season.
