National Pet CBD Day

National Pet CBD Day 2024: National Pet CBD Day is observed annually on April 21 to raise awareness about the beneficial properties of cannabidiol and how it has enhanced the lives of pets over time. Since 2737 B.C., cannabis has been used medicinally. C.B.D., or cannabidiol, is a phytocannabinoid present in cannabis plants. It does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol, the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana. CBD aids in the management of pain, anxiety, cognitive, and movement disorders. It is also known to aid canines suffering from epilepsy, cancer, aggression, and mobility issues. However, additional research is necessary to confirm these advantages. CBD is typically sold as an oil, but it is also available as an extract, vaporised liquid, and oil-based capsules.

History of National CBD for Pets Day

Commonly found in cannabis plants, cannabidiol is a chemical compound. CBD is present in both hemp and marijuana, but due to hemp’s lawful status, it is primarily extracted from hemp. The earliest documented medicinal use of cannabis dates back to 2737 BCE in ancient China. The Chinese Emperor Sheng Neng infused cannabis into tea to treat a variety of ailments, including malaria, rheumatism, and gout, as well as to enhance cerebral and cognitive functions. William B. O’Shaughnessy, an Irish physician and medical researcher, published his research in 1839. O’Shaughnessy described the effects of cannabis and its anaesthetic potential in his study. At the time, his research was controversial and, as a result, it was ignored. However, he unwittingly paved the way for the discovery of cannabinoids through his research. Beginning with the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, the United States government began prohibiting marijuana use.

Robert S. Cahn, a British chemist, discovered the complete structure of cannabinol (C.B.N.) in 1940. Two years later, the American chemist Roger Adams effectively isolated CBD from marijuana for the first time. Dr. Raphael Mechoulam identified the structure of C.B.D. in 1963 and effectively isolated THC, the most active component of the cannabis plant, in 1964. His cannabis-related research earned him the title “Godfather of Cannabis Research.”

As the benefits of cannabidiol became more widely known, individual states began to decriminalise cannabis. Oregon was the first state to decriminalise cannabis in 1973. California was the first state to legalise medical cannabis in 1996. A year later, Alaska, Washington, and Oregon took the same action. 19 of the 51 states in the United States have legalised cannabis for recreational use as of 2021.
