National Veterans BBQ Day 2023: Annually, National Veterans BBQ Day occurs on October 16. It is a day to honor our local veterans cordially and amicably by grilling them a barbecue or taking them out to dinner. On this day, social media is typically lively with individuals sharing recipes and veterans recounting their adventures. Steakhouses also observe the occasion by providing complimentary meals to veterans and active-duty personnel. National Veterans BBQ Day and National Veterans’ Day are distinct in observance, even though the former is occasionally confused with the latter.
National Veterans BBQ Day History
To clarify, a veteran is an individual who has previously served in the armed forces. Honoring and respecting veterans is an obligation that must never be neglected. They have contributed significantly to the betterment of their respective nations. To honor fallen patriots, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 Armistice Day in 1919.
Raymond Weeks, a veteran of World War II and a native of Birmingham, Alabama, proposed in 1945 that Armistice Day be expanded to honor all veterans, not just those who lost their lives in World War I. Veterans was adopted as the new term for ‘Armistice’ in 1954, per a law passed by the United States Congress. The inaugural National Veterans Award was presented to Kansas Congressman Rees in the same year that the organization was established.
National Veterans BBQ Day was established by Smoke & Bacon Media L.L.C. in April 2021. The private enterprise originated from the vision of unity and patriotism held by a veteran. It operates a radio station, a social platform accessible to veterans and civilians around the globe, and a number of charitable organizations.
While National Veterans BBQ Day and Veterans Day are distinct occasions, they both honor and celebrate our veterans in the same manner. On National Veterans BBQ Day, individuals extend barbecue invitations or host barbecue meals at steakhouses in honor of their local military veterans. Additionally, certain veteran communities organize barbecue gatherings, while certain steakhouses offer complimentary meals to veterans and soldiers.
