A week after former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister ND Tiwari’s son demise, Rohit Shekhar Tiwari’s wife Apoorva Shukla Tiwari has been arrested in connection with her husband’s death.
“Apoorva strangled her husband and choked him with a pillow after a huge fight,” the police was quoted in reports. Shukla was later sent to two-day police custody.
The Delhi police say that she was unhappy with the marriage and she smothered while he was drunk and they also say that she herself committed the crime without any help.
The arrest comes after the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Sunday took Apoorva, a maid and a servant to an undisclosed location for interrogation in connection with mysterious death of 40-year-old Rohit Shekhar on April 16. He was earlier believed to have died of a cardiac arrest.

Apoorva, a lawyer, was questioned for three days. “They had a fight which became violent. She pounced on him and strangled him. He had been drinking, so he was in no position to resist. Rohit Shekhar was murdered in his room around 1 am. “She later destroyed the evidence. All this happened within one-and-a-half hours,” said the police officer.
Rohit slept during the night of April 15 and was found dead at 4 pm the next day.
Rohit had fought a long battle in court to prove that he was the son of the stalwart Congress leader ND Tiwari. The former Chief Minister had refused to give his blood sample for a DNA test in 2012, but the same was proven two years later.
