A police official along with three journalists was arrested in Noida on charges of extortion and corruption. The police caught them red-handed with Rs 8 lakh cash, Mercedes and pistol as possessions.

Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police, said, “We conducted an operation in which Sector 20 Police Station in-charge Manoj Pant and three other journalists- Udit Goyal, Sushil Pandit and Raman Thakur, were arrested. Additional SHO Jaiveer Singh, of the same police station, has been suspended. They were allegedly extorting money from a call centre owner in exchange for removing his name from an FIR that was filed against him in November 2018. We will ascertain more details of the extortion racket upon questioning”.

The operation ran for many hours until the police officials got hold of the cash and the Mercedes car as possession of journalists seized from the spot that appears to be stolen. The police officials are investigating the matter and also searching if the .32 pistol recovered is licensed or not.

The Sector 20 police station was the base for all the operations that were carried out, claims the police. The details of the exchange of calls between the owner and the accused are being searched by the police.

Additional SHO Jaiveer Singh has also been arrested by the police for his involvement in the case.
