A then 16-year-old boy, accused of double murder in his family, has been acquitted and released from police custody after his father refused to testify against the boy, the only living member of his family now.
The murders had taken place on December 4, 2017, at their 14th-floor flat in a housing society. Almost two years after the gruesome attempt to kill his mother and sister with pizza cutter, the boy was let off by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in May after the only witness in the case, his father, turned hostile.
The father was in Gujarat for a business trip at the time of the incident but remained to be the only witness of the crime. He produced medical records of his son’s mental health as evidence that the boy should not be tried as an adult.
Soon after the boy was apprehended on December 8, cops had said he was caught on CCTV cameras of his housing society in Noida Extension leaving his flat on the night of December 4 with a backpack. Police also found the bat, pizza cutter and a pair of scissors allegedly used in the crime and bloodstained clothes of the boy.
