In a shocking incident, an NRI couple was charged for allegedly killing their own adopted son to bag the insurance money of Rs 1.20 crore. The duo had taken insurance as cover for the life of the boy, whom they adopted in 2015.
Police filed a FIR against Arti Loknath (53) and her husband Kanwaljitsinh Raijada (28). The couple is currently living in London. They allegedly were a part of the conspiracy to kill Gopal (13), said Keshod police inspector Ashok Tilva.
“Arti and Kanwaljitsinh conspired with one Nitish Mund to adopt Gopal (13), get him insured and then kill him so that they could get insurance money. Nitish, who also lived in London before shifting here after his visa expired, had planned along with the couple since 2015 to kill Gopal,” said Tilva as per a report in TOI.
The couple’s role in murder was exposed after the detention of Nitish on Monday. Days after Gopal was attacked with knife by unidentified accused on the night of February 8, in Junagadh district, the boy died at a Rajkot hospital on Monday.
“Hired assailants attacked Gopal and Harsukh Patel after they came out of a vehicle at a pre-decided place at Keshod. We have initiated a process to arrest the NRI couple who are at present in UK,”said Talvia.
