Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away at the age of 93 in Delhi on August 16, 2018. He was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for the past nine weeks and was being treated for kidney tract infection, chest congestion and low urine output.

He served as the 10th Prime Minister of the country, the first term for 13 days in 1996 and later from the year 1998 to 2004. He became the maiden non-Congress Prime Minister who served a full five-year term.

All about the Legendary Leader’s Family

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born to a literature lovers’ family in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior on 25th December 1924. His father, Krishna Bihari Vajpayee, was a poet and a schoolmaster in his hometown. His mother’s name was Krishna Devi. Vajpayee’s family had migrated after his grandfather, Pandit Shyam Lal Vajpayee, had moved to Morena in Gwalior from his ancestral village of Bateshwar in Uttar Pradesh.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was survived with a daughter called Namita Bhattacharya who is not his biological daughter. Vajpayee had adopted her as his daughter who was looked after by Rajkumari Kaul. Rajkumari Kaul was never married to Vajpayee but was referred to as Namita’s mother. Kaul died in 2014 till then she was known to be a household member of Vajpayee.
