Owaisi’s AIMIM becomes first political party to get official TikTok account

TikTok has more than 200 million users in India, and overtook Facebook as the most downloaded social media application in the first quarter of 2019.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi ‘s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehad ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has become the first political party to have an officially verified account on TikTok

Since it’s launch, the AIMIM’s official TikTok account has more than 7,000 followers and over 60,000 likes on close to 75 of its videos.

Since the platform gives a user an opportunity to express and share a message in a concise manner and make it funny at the same time. The party aims to reach out to what the party called the ‘Young India’ – young Internet users and first time voters, and put forward its agenda to this section of people.

One of the video clips on its account shows party President Asaduddin Owaisi appealing people to come to Darussalam-AIMIM’s party headquarters. He also said that his party’s doors are always open for everyone, irrespective of one’s religion and caste, and the same time taking a sarcastic jibe on Prime Minister’s Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas.

In addition to its organised presence on the platform, AIMIM fans are also using the platform to share quirky messages regularly, the most popular being the lip-sync videos of Owaisi brother’s speeches.

Presently, the video streaming app has more than 200 million users in India, and overtook Facebook as the most downloaded social media application in the first quarter of 2019. However, several organisations have called for a ban on Tik Tok following accidents and deaths being reported due to its use.
