New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) ‘Saffron’, a term not devoid of political interpretations, has been artistically interpreted by 30 artists at a group art show ‘Saffron’, as the alluring flavour and fragrance of the Indian spice ‘kesar’.
The three-day group show was inaugurated on Saturday at the Artizen Art Gallery here. Curated by Erum Khan, the show will be open to public till Monday.
Hari Singh, a senior artist who associates saffron with patriotism and religion, has painted diverse interpretations of it on canvas. His paintings depict Mother Teresa and Sikh religious leader Guru Gobind Singh.
In a live demonstration of his artistic skills on Sunday, he painted a landscape of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, a popular Sufi shrine.
Curator Khan, known for her group exhibits, told IANS the idea behind the exhibition’s title was to bring out the aroma of saffron and feel it in the works of artists.
Artist Suraj Shukla, another participant, has on display a painstakingly-detailed portrait of a man in meditation. “‘Kesar’ (saffron) is also deeply meditative. I have used the metallic silver skin as the man’s skin to show his inner meditative thoughts reflecting gloriously outside,” he told IANS.
The group show of various styles, techniques and perspectives is presented by Aura Planet Group Arts.
