Aspects influencing fuel pricing
The prices of petroleum are determined by oil marketing companies such as IOCL, BP, and HPCL. The fuels and diesel prices are not governed by the government and must be adjusted in accordance with global prices.
Through excise duty, the federal government exercises control over fuel prices. In addition to taxes, the Centre regulates petroleum prices through base prices and ceiling prices at which dealers and OMCs conduct business.
