National Space Day: Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 23, the date on which Chandrayaan landed softly on the moon, as ‘National Space Day’ and designated the landing site of the Vikram spacecraft on the lunar surface as the ‘Shiv Shakti’ point.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated the scientists at the ISRO Telemetry Tracking & Command Network Mission Control Complex for the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon shortly after touching down in Bengaluru. Modi, praising the mission’s efforts, declared, “The landing site of Chandrayaan-3’s moon lander will be known as Shiva Shakti.”

“India is on the Moon, we have placed our national pride on the Moon,” Modi said before naming ‘Tiranga Point’ as the location where Chandrayaan-2 “left its footprints” on the lunar surface in 2019.

“Another naming ceremony has been delayed since the Chandrayaan-2 mission. But we resolved to do so only after completing the Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully… The lunar location where Chandrayaan-2 “left its footprints” four years ago will henceforth be known as Tiranga. Modi stated that the location will eternally serve as a reminder that failure is merely a stepping stone to success.

He reiterated that the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission is not only India’s, but humanity’s as well. “This is no commonplace accomplishment; it is a resounding proclamation of India’s scientific achievement in the infinite universe… Not only Indians, but individuals from all over the world who believe in science are enthusiastic, he added.
