Jorhat: Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday, April 11 alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state for campaigning on polling day violates the model code of conduct.

Gogoi’s comment came after he cast his vote in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls. He said that the PM is soliciting votes in Assam on the day when the polling process is taking place across five Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. It is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Gogoi added that the PM could have campaigned a day later as no polling is scheduled for tomorrow. He said, soliciting votes in the name of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation is also an indirect violation of the MCC. He said, the martyrs are from Assam and not of the BJP.

When asked if the BJP was worried about its performance in Assam, the former Chief Minister said the BJP is worried otherwise why will the Prime Minister come here again and again. “Modi claims himself to be the ‘chowkidar’ of the country. Why could he not take the money from the people who looted the country’s money. The BJP speak only about “acche din” when we want development and progress,” Mr Gogoi said.

The Lok Sabha polls is scheduled to be take place in Assam, across three phases with the first phase underway today.
