Police arrests groom and kin for flouting COVID19 norms during wedding in Odisha

As the surge in coronavirus cases in the country is giving many people sleepless night but the flouting of COVID19 norms are taking no stop. One such case came from Odisha’s Ganjam as the district alone accounts for 2066 of Odisha’s 8601 confirmed cases of infection.

According to the reports, a wedding ceremony was taking place where the safety precautions went for a toss, the video of the event show attendees dancing without any masks or concern for social distancing.

After a video of the wedding went viral on social media, the district administration wasted no time in initiating action against the erring parties. It was later discovered that guests arrived at the event from several neighbouring municipalities, a direct violation of orders issued by the Ganjam Collector restricting locals’ movement beyond 1 km from the place of residence.

Five people, including the groom and his father along with three uncles, have been arrested.

The police have also seized two vehicles used during the wedding procession.

Satyabrata Bhoi, DIG (Northern Range) told India Today, “In an incident of violation of COVID guidelines for organizing a marriage procession inside hotel premises, disregarding the compulsory use of mask and flouting social distancing norms, Gopalpur police station has registered a case against them under sections 188, 269 and 270 of the IPC read with section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act and 34 of the IPC.”
