In a shocking incident reported, Punjab drug inspector Neha Shoree who was posted at a government-run laboratory, was shot dead in her office in Kharar on Friday by a chemist who later committed suicide by shooting himself.

Preliminary investigation indicated Balwinder Singh of Morinda killed Neha, the zonal licensing authority, in frustration as she had cancelled the licence of his store in 2009 when she was posted as drug inspector in Ropar district

Reportedly, Police said that Balvinder Singh reached the FDA office on his motorbike around 10.30 am. He entered Shoree’s office, fired two bullets at her and shouted “Happy Holi”.

“He shot Neha Shauri in chest with a .32 bore revolver by killing her on the spot and then shot himself.”

Police further told that the woman officer’s six-year-old niece was also present inside her office when she was shot from point blank range.

The attacker tried to flee the spot after shooting Shoree but was surrounded by people following which he shot himself too, the police said.

Shoree is survived by a two-year-old daughter and husband Varun Monga, who works in a bank, while Singh is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has ordered an investigation in the shooting incident.
