Punjab: Former Akali leader runs SUV over Congress sarpanch

A case under Section 302 of the IPC (murder) has been registered against Mittar Pal and his supporters

A former Akali sarpanch allegedly ran over an SUV over a Congress sarpanch that has triggered tension on the area. The incident has occurred under the jurisdiction of the Qadian police station.

The Akalis blamed the local congressmen for the incident but however, the sitting Congress MLA of Qadian Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa said “The Congress has nothing to do with the incident. I term it as one of the most unfortunate incidents of my political career. Law will take its own course.”

The tension was defused after the SSP of the area rushed and controlled the panic.

Reportedly, the former Akali leader Mittar Pal Singh of Daulatpur had an enmity with the present sarpanch Inderjit Singh. Akali supporters had asked Inderjit and his brother in law Navdeep Singh who is congress sarpanch of Riar Patti village to come to their area do that peace is maintained ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

As per the police, Navdeep wanted the leaders to unite. When Mittar Pal, Inderjit, and Navdeep were having a discussion, supporters of both SAD and Congress had a verbal spat. The blame game turned violent and both parties started throwing brickbats at each other, following which Inderjit Singh asked his supporters to return to their homes after pacifying them.

When Navdeep was leaving Daulatpur, he was allegedly attacked on the road by Mittar Pal and his supporters.  Inderjit tried to intervene to dismay was unable to do anything.

Amid which Mittar Pal and his accomplice Jhujhar Singh sat in his Bolero and allegedly ran it over Navdeep, killing him on the spot. He was rushed to the Batala Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A case under Section 302 of the IPC (murder) has been registered against Mittar Pal and his supporters.
