New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Rajya Sabha term is ending on June 14, 2019, and Congress party is trying to send him to the upper house from Tamil Nadu where six Rajya Sabha seat will be vacated in July.

According to sources, Congress party is trying to nominate Dr Singh from Tamil Nadu with the support from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and efforts are being made by the central leadership in this regard.

DMK Rajya Sabha MP MK Kanimozhi, whose term ends in July has indicated her interest in contesting Lok Sabha elections from Thoothukudi seat.

Congress is trying to seal the deal with DMK so that the former PM Singh can make it to the Upper House of Parliament for the fifth consecutive term since 1991.

Out of six seats in Tamil Nadu, Congress is eying two seats which DMK is in a position to win clearly on its own.

Efforts are being made to bring DMK in the proposed Grand Alliance of opposition parties against Bhartiya Janata Party in the 2019 General Elections.
