Bollywood actor Asif Basra allegedly died by suicide at a private guest house in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh. A forensic team has arrived to find out how he died, the police said, adding they are investigating whether it was death by suicide. He was 53.

The actor had a property on lease in Mcleodganj – a place popular among tourists – and used to visit the hill station often, news agency Press Trust of India reported. Asif Basra starred in films like Black Friday, Parzania, Outsourced, Jab We Met, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Kai Po Che, Krrish 3, Ek Villain, Kaalakaandi and Hichki.

Starting his career in 1998 with Woh, Asif was last seen in the second season of Disney+ Hotstar series Hostages. He also starred as a senior executive in a media house in Amazon Prime’s Paatal Lok, which was released earlier this year.

In Sushant Singh Rajput’s debut film Kai Po Che, Asif Basra was seen as Digvijay Deshmukh’s father. In 2013, Asif Basra worked with Hrithik Roshan’s superhero film Krrish 3 and was seen as Dr Alok Sen. Another hit film that had Asif Basra playing a pivotal role was Shraddha Kapoor, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Sidharth Malhotra’s Ek Villain. In 2018, Asif Basra was seen in Rani Mukerji’s film Hichki. He indeed appeared in many films and enthralled all by his flawless performance.

In Anurag Kashyap’s film which was released in India in 2007, Asif played the role of Shanawaz Qureshi. The movie is based on a book on the 1993 Bombay bombings. Asif played the role of one of the accused of the bombings. He played the role of a concerned father in this 2010 Milan Luthria film. Playing the role of Inspector Hussain Khan, Asif portrayed a father who tried to control his son from going astray.

Basra again played the role of a journalist, this time a news channel editor, in the controversial 2019 movie The Tashkent Files based on the death of India’s former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
