A Moroccan state TV programme ignited outrage after it aired a lesson on how women could use makeup to cover up scars of domestic violence. The section of the daily programme ‘Sabahiyat’ instructed audience on using beauty products to “camouflage the traces of violence against women.”

“Makeup allows women to continue to live normally while waiting for justice,” said the host.

She also showed helpful tricks with foundation and concealer on a model whose face was full of marks and fake black and blue bruises.

“We hope that these beauty tips help you carry on with your normal life,” said the host.

Sadly, the show was aired just two days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The video attracted an extensive outrage on social media, with thousands people across the world, expressing their distress and shock.

Seeking an apology and action against the TV programme, an online petition was also signed by hundreds of women. “Do not cover domestic violence with makeup, condemn the aggressor!”

The channel on which the programme was aired had apologized and called it “completely inappropriate” and an “editorial error of judgment.”

The host of the segment too clarified on a Moroccan radio show that “in no way are we endorsing” domestic violence.

As per the reports, in Morocco World News, violence against women is a major concern in the country. Around 62.8 per cent of Moroccan women have been victims of gender violence, revealed a 2015 study.
