Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday said Mumbai police will take into account actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s reported clinical depression while conducting a probe into his death.

Rajput, 34, who was found hanging in his Bandra apartment on Sunday, was cremated here on Monday in the presence of family members and close friends from the film and TV industry.

“While the post mortem report says actor @itsSSR committed suicide by hanging himself, there are media reports that he allegedly suffered from clinical depression because of professional rivalry. @MumbaiPolice will probe this angle too,” the minister tweeted.

The night before taking the extreme step on Sunday, Sushant Singh Rajput had made two phone calls, the Mumbai Police investigation has revealed.

According to the sources in Mumbai Police, Sushant called actor Rhea Chakraborty at 1:47 AM, but she did not answer the phone. Thereafter, SSR reportedly called his friend and actor Mahesh Shetty at 1:51 AM but this phone call also went unanswered.

The investigation further revealed that Shetty called back at 8:30 AM after waking but Sushant did not respond to the call. Shetty assumed that he was sleeping and called back again an hour later at 9:30 AM but the call didn’t go through, interviews with friends and call records accessed by Mumbai Police revealed.

Sushant’s cook and other staff present in the house told the cops that he had a glass of pomegranate juice just before his breakfast. His cook Neeraj then knocked at the actor’s bedroom door at 10:25 AM to ask him about his lunch plans. However, he didn’t respond.

Neeraj, another house help Kehshav and a friend of Sushant were also present in the house.

The friend woke up at 11 am and enquired about Sushant from his staff and also knocked on the actor’s bedroom door. After getting no response, the friend called Sushant’s phone which was ringing inside the room but wasn’t answered.

Sushant starred in films such as Shuddh Desi Romance, Raabta, Kedarnath and Sonchiriya. But his most prominent role came as cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s in the 2007 biopic, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

His death has come as another shock for the film fraternity, still recovering from the deaths of Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Basu Chatterjee.
