In Tamil Nadu, a 31-year-old mother shaved her head to feed three children. The woman sold hair for 150 rupees. to buy food for her children. Prema’s husband committed suicide 7 months ago. Since then, her financial condition had deteriorated.
This incident happened last Friday. But now it is becoming viral on social media.
Prema told the media, “She has three children aged five, three and two. The children were hungry. I asked neighbors, relatives and anyone who showed the most help, but no one helped. That day a hair buyer came from the street. Passed. He used to make hair big. I immediately ran out of my hut after hearing his voice. Cut my hair and sold it. For 100 rupees I bought food for the children.”
Prema said that in order to get rid of everyday problems, “I thought of committing suicide. I had 50 rupees. After this, I went to the shopkeeper to buy a bottle of poison, but the shopkeeper might have realized my position. He refused to give poison. Then I tried to kill myself by eating poisonous plant seeds, but this time the sister stopped.”
A graphic designer G. Bala came to know about women’s troubles. She posted the story of the woman on social media and appealed to the people to help her through crowdfunding.
The woman got Rs 1.45 lakh from this. At the same time, the state government gave an assurance to give a widow pension. Prema told that now she will work and raise my children.
According to media reports, the husband was heavily indebted and because of this, he committed suicide.
