Twitter Starts Charging Money: Twitter has seen a number of modifications since Elon Musk took control of the social media platform. Twitter updated its Blue membership by giving its paying customers verified badges and starting compensating them with a new revenue-sharing programme.
Twitter is now testing a new rule that requires users to pay a small fee to open a new account on the service. According to the business, this new initiative will contribute to a decrease in Twitter’s bot population and ultimately, spam.
Twitter Starts Charging Money from Users for Creating New Accounts

Twitter has said that a new programme named “Not A Bot” is being tested on the service. As a result of this new rule, Twitter users who want to sign up for a new account will have to pay a $1 annual subscription charge.
This only applies if the new user that registers on the site doesn’t have a Twitter Blue subscription. The user will not be required to pay the $1 annual charge if they choose Twitter Blue when setting up their new account.
The user can decide not to pay anything, though. The new account will then continue to be read-only, and the user won’t be able to post new tweets or communicate with other users on the platform.
Twitter has made it clear that this new rule will only be in effect for newly registered users. This new policy will not apply to current Twitter users.
According to Twitter, its new ‘Not A Bot’ programme will stop bots from registering on the site. This action is a component of Twitter’s effort to eliminate spam. The business adds that paid subscriptions have shown to be a successful strategy for reducing spam and bots.
It is important to note that only in New Zealand and the Philippines is the new Twitter policy currently being tested. As of yet, the new regulation has not been put into effect in any other areas. Before adopting this change globally, Twitter says it will test it out on a small scale and track the outcomes.

Is Twitter Gradually Turning Pay-To-Use?

Twitter users have voiced conflicting views about the rapid changes taking place on the platform since Elon Musk took control. Some people have praised the addition of an edit button and purchased verified badges, while others have complained about the same.
In the big picture, Twitter has been attempting to increase income by encouraging more users to subscribe to Blue. To entice more users into its subscription programme, the site initially tried to motivate them with a blue check, then with an edit button, and most recently, they even started paying back Blue subscribers.
Twitter claims that its most recent experimental policy is intended to reduce spam, but it is clear that the company sees spam as a potential new money stream. If things continue as they are, Twitter might soon adopt a pay-per-use business model similar to your Netflix membership.
