Unraveling the $2500 Payment Process: Up until December 31, the Montana Department of Revenue will give eligible people an income tax credit of up to $2500. But how do you get it?

People who filed taxes in 2021 will get income tax refunds from the State Treasury. These payments started going out to people in July and are based on the tax returns.

The amount of the individual income tax refund relies on whether the person is married on their 2021 return and how much tax they paid in 2021 (line 20 of the 2021 Montana Form Two).

A return of $1250 or the amount on line 20 will be given to people who filed as single, head of household, or married filing separately. Married people who file a joint tax return will get a refund of $2500 or the amount on line 20, whichever is less.
