Vibhuvana Sankashti Chaturthi 2023: Vibhuvana Sankashti bears great significance in Hinduism, and this day is observed only once every three years, on Adhik Maas. Each Sankashthi Chaturthi has its own unique significance, name, and Peetha.

Adhik Maas or Purushottam Maas is very popular, and the result, whether pleasure or prosperity, multiplies exponentially during this month. There is a belief that worshipping Lord Ganesha alleviates all difficulties. By performing the Vibhuvan Sankashti Puja, one can eliminate all problems.

Date and time of the Vibhuvana Sankashti Chaturthi in 2023

According to the Panchang, Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi will be celebrated on the Chaturthi Tithi (fourth day) of Krishna Paksha in the month of Sawan, which corresponds to August 4, 2023. Chaturthi Tithi will begin at 12:45 p.m. on August 4, 2023, and end at 9:39 a.m. on August 5, 2023. The moon will rise on Sankashti Day at 9:20 p.m. on August 4, 2023. In addition, the auspicious time for Moon Puja will be after moonrise, which on this day will occur at 9:10 p.m.

Significance of Vibhuvana Sankashti Chaturthi 2023

“Sankashti” is a Sanskrit word that signifies “liberation from challenging times.” Vibhuvana Sankashti Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, who is revered as the remover of obstacles and the one who bestows his devotees with the ability to eliminate difficulties from their lives. On this day, however, one may also worship Lord Shiva, the progenitor of Lord Ganesha.

One worships the Moon at night and observes all rituals associated with the puja. It is believed that by offering Arghya to the moon, one will receive happiness, serenity, and prosperity. On this day, devotees observe a fast for both fortitude and intelligence. There are two Chaturthi Tithis according to the Hindu Calendar.

Sankashti Chaturthi is observed after the full moon (Purnima) during Krishna Paksha, while Amavasya is observed during Adhik Maas. Consequently, on this Sankashti, Vibhuvana Palaka Maha Ganpati will be venerated, and the Peetha will be known as Durva Bilva Patra Peetha.

Puja Rituals for Vibhuvana Sankashti Chaturthi 2023

On this day, one must rise early in the morning, take a bath, and fast throughout the day. They must clean the room in which the puja is performed and position the Lord Ganesha idol on a wooden plank. Then, the idol is adorned with yellow garments, flowers, and Durva vegetation. Then, a traditional ghee lamp and incense sticks are ignited. The preferred sweet Modak, bananas, and meetha paan of Ganesha are presented.

Evening Sankashti Puja is performed, aarti to Lord Ganesha is performed, Bindayak Katha is recited, and mantras are then chanted. Before breaking the fast, Arghya or water is offered to the Moon. Only sattvik foods, such as Makhana Kheer, Sama Rice khichdi, and milk products are permitted.
