Wellington Anniversary Day 2023

Wellington Anniversary Day 2023: Wellington Anniversary Day is a celebration conducted annually on the Monday after January 22 to honour the beautiful city of Wellington. This year’s event occurs on January 23. Wellington is recognised as the culinary capital of New Zealand, but the province has so much more to offer, from its rich culture to its wonderful, hospitable people.

HISTORY OF WELLINGTON ANNIVERSARY DAY

Before establishing, the history of many modern societies consists of expeditions by the progenitors of such cultures and their search for the most suitable environment and geography to provide safety, shelter, food, and favourable atmospheric conditions. The area that is now known as Wellignton was referred to by numerous names by the various people who inhabited there at different times throughout history. It is thought that the Mori were the first settlers, and that they named the area “Te Upoko o Te Ika a Maui,” which translates to “the Head of Maui’s Fish.” Kupe was the first explorer to arrive in the area in the 10th century A.D., and Tara was the one who gave the region its name: “the Great Harbor of Tara.”

Wellington Anniversary Day commemorates the entrance of the first European settlers and the subsequent colonisation of the regions that today comprise Wellington. In 1840, the settlers arrived aboard the Aurora and placed the entire territory under the administration of the New Zealand government. The first year following their arrival was commemorated with a celebration, and since then, the Wellington Anniversary Day has been celebrated yearly.

Wellington Anniversary Day is a moment for city residents to reflect on their deep historical roots and the voyage that brought their ancestors to the city as settlers. It commemorates the rich history of the people and the land, as well as the significant changes and landmark achievements they have accomplished as a city and a people. It is a wonderful day, packed with joy, merriment, and self- and group-identity sobriety.
