WhatsApp resumes work on vacation mode, feature to roll out in Android app soon

WhatsApp has reportedly resumed work on Vacation Mode, a feature that looks to offer options to users to mute archived chat even in the event of receiving new messages. As per reports, WhatsApp has brought back its popular Vacation mode feature in the latest Android beta update. Along with this, other features including the auto-archive chats is also being tested by the messaging app.

As per a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has renewed its efforts towards the development of Vacation Mode, which was also called ‘Ignore Archived Chats’ briefly.

The feature was being tested for almost two years, but even the public beta users were not able to use it.

The Vacation mode feature that WhatsApp seems to be working on for over a year now will allow users to mute notifications from archived chats. However, in the latest update, it was found that WhatsApp will give two options to users to deal with their archived chats. The Notify New Messages and Auto Hide inactive chats option. The first option if enabled will let the users know about the messages from the archived chats but if the second option is enabled WhatsApp will hide chats that have been inactive for six months.

The latest WhatsApp v2.20.199.8 beta for Android also suggests that WhatsApp is working on implementing media guidelines when you add interactive annotations on images, videos, and GIFs. This will help users perfectly align text, emojis, and stickers when sending an image in a chat, group, or status update.  WhatsApp is also working on implementing new media guidelines in the app.

WhatsApp is used by more than 2.7 billion users in the world and is expected to reach 2.87 billion for 2021. It is the world’s most used instant messaging app acquired by Facebook.
