Celebrated author, Paulo Coelho, has given a remarkable quote, ” When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. At times, we come across people in life, who deepen our belief in this statement even more. One such fine example is Miss Renuka Jain, whose journey is an inspiration for many of us out there.

Here is how it unfolds:

Renuka was born in a lower middle-class family. Her family was rich in values, that she imbibed at a very tender age. There were little means, but a wealth of morals. That is when she understood the power of simplicity and it has remained her biggest virtue till date.

The little sacrifices that her parents made for Renuka and her siblings made her value hard work, sincerity and respect for her parents and elders. These little things have been catalysts that motivated her to become a successful financial powerhouse that she is today. She owes it all to the almighty, her parents and family members.

After finishing school, Renuka started doing day jobs with marketing agencies, where she used to earn Rs 100 per day. That helped her in her studies and to carry out little personal expenses of her own.

Despite scoring excellent marks in science in high school, Renuka opted for commerce stream, as she realised it was her true calling. Further, her interest in the subject deepened as she had devoted teachers who guided her in her stream. She recalls her teacher, Sunil Arora, whose teaching never let her fetch marks less than 99% in accounts ever.

She got her name in the first list with prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi. “The college had best of faculty and perfect ground for me to take up CA as a profession in future”, Renuka says.

In those years, the profession was limited to very few women. However, she feels that her confidence and education let her overcome any hassles in the way of her profession. Moreover, the deep support she had from her family made her strive for excellence in her field all the more.

She used to manage a monthly stipend of Rs 500. With whatever little she earned, Renuka never asked her parents for any more money as she felt they had done enough for her. All these things helped to evolve Renuka as a fine person, which grounded morals and wisdom.

All the while, she was struggling with societal norms when Renuka reached the age of 21 years, and she realised she had become a contender for marriage.

“I was well aware I had less time in hand. So I took both professions CA & CS together”, she says.

She started cutting on her sleep and devoting more time to her studies. This continued for some time and her hard work paid.

Renuka had achieved 17th All India Rank in her first attempt in CA intermediate. Her next target was to clear CS groups, which was also successfully achieved.

“That time my boss, Mr Sanjeev Chowdhary, was my source of motivation. He realised my capability and send me to best of audits”, Renuka says.

Just one month before CA Finals in unforeseen circumstances, Renuka lost her father. It was a big emotional loss for her and family.

Her mother became her pillar of strength in the struggling time. She urged her to take the exams.

“I was a CA in three months along with a degree of CS. This was enough for me to get flooded with job offers. From Ferguson management consultancy to Escorts Finance and then Citi Corp”, she remarks.

Amidst this journey, she met her life partner. Lucky was she to have found someone who not only loved her but also respected her profession. “Marriage never came in my way of ambition”, she says.

She decided to quit her job when she was expecting her first born. Being a passionate mother, she decided to bring up the child and instil the best virtues in the child herself. However, at the same time, she chose not to sit idle, and she used the time to complete NSE course to sell mutual funds and did insurance licence course & tied up with an all mutual funds and insurance company.

“Platinum club member with most of mutual funds and All India topper for HDFC life in 2005 were my major achievements back then. The list of my awards is unending. I have attended top insurance advisor meets in the US for three years in a row. Awards, felicitation and interviews have become a regular stuff now”, she adds.

In spite of earning tremendous success, Renuka still remains the down-to-earth and humble person that she had always been.

She feels lucky to have driven some inspiration from famous Indian chartered accountant, S Gurumurthy. In his interview, he had spoken about why he left income tax advisory for corruption in the system, that left Renuka instantly attracted to him.

She was lucky enough to meet him, she believed she had the blessings of a ‘fatherly figure’.

She also feels indebted to Gaurav Pradhan, who realised the potential in this strong financial exponent.

“I do not guarantee anyone that I will double their wealth. All I promise is an honest intent. Chasing fund managers to warning people against wrong products is one of my main focus”, she says.

An ambitious soul, Renuka feels that she has three priorities- her family, her nation and then her work. She tries to give her best to all three of them.

Recalling her journey, Renuka says, “So this girl struggling with crowded buses drives a Mercedes now. No I am not showing off. But this is message is for everyone, that when you really want something universe conspires to make it happen”.

She believes that loving oneself, exercising, being honest and above all being gracious is her motto in life.

“Have Gratitude to God for all good he does to you. Dance a little. Go for holidays. Meet new people. Keep hate and anger away from you. Love all. Be yourself. Don’t be a hypocrite”, she adds.

According to Renuka, these are her five mantras of life:

Gratitude is the biggest virtue. Love God not fear him.

Take care of physical & mental health. Keep a check on negative thoughts.

Treat every soul with respect, be it a worker or a millionaire.

Being woman is a gift of God. Don’t misuse it in the garb of feminism.

Love yourself above all.
