WWE Star: In response to concerns that a knee injury could prevent him from competing at WrestleMania 40, Seth Rollins recently declared that he would be prepared to do so. Current Intercontinental Champion Gunther reaffirmed before the 2024 Royal Rumble that if he prevails in the 30-man match, he intends to confront Rollins.
Gunther interrupted Rollins on the January 22 episode of RAW while he was announcing his WrestleMania 40 status. The Ring General disclosed that attaining the World Heavyweight Championship of The Visionary is his primary objective.
Gunther reaffirmed in an interview with Chris Van Vliet his intention to challenge Rollins and win the Royal Rumble. Furthermore, the Austrian alluded to his forthcoming defense against Kofi Kingston in the Intercontinental Championship.
“I want to win the Royal Rumble tomorrow and then challenge Seth Rollins,” Gunther commented. “That is my primary objective. I will defend against Kofi on Monday for this Intercontinental Championship. “Because of tomorrow’s rumble, he may be able to take advantage of the fact that I am not yet able to devote my full attention to that, but I am quite confident in my ability to defend it against him as well; we’ll see where that takes me.” [0:46 – 1:05]
Gunther made his sole prior appearance at the Royal Rumble during the 2023 tournament. Almost 72 minutes passed before the Imperium commander entered the match from the number one position. He achieved the runner-up position after his elimination by the eventual champion, Cody Rhodes.

The Ultimate Warrior surrendered the Intercontinental Championship in 1990 after his victory over Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship. Keith Lee relinquished the North American Championship in recent years after his triumphant NXT Championship victory in 2020.
