BACKGROUND
Zen Shimada was born in Tokyo, Japan on 13 May 1993. Popularly, he is recognised by his stage moniker, Zen. Before settling on parkour, he was always interested in sports and attempted many of them. Zen began parkour at the age of 15 and migrated to the United States on his own the following year. He participated in the international parkour competition “RedBull Art of Motion Yokohama” at the age of 18, which was held for the first time in Japan, and received widespread international acclaim for his outstanding performance.
At the age of 19, he signed a contract with L.D.H. and became the first professional parkour athlete in Japan. In 2015, he was the first Asian and the first Japanese to claim the U.S. title in the parkour discipline.
