31 Indian institutes ranked in Times World University Rankings

UGC releases list of 'fake' universities, 8 from Delhi; Check all 20 here

A record 31 Indian institutes have been ranked in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-17. This indeed is sign of improvement shown by Indian education space, but still the top 200 list continues to elude the country. The total list has featured 980 best universities from 70 countries.

The list shows that Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has climbed to the highest position till date. The IISc now figures in the 201-250 band, up from 251-300 last time. A total of seven IITs have found their place in the list including IIT-Bombay which is in 351-400 band while IIT-Delhi is in the 401-500 band. Other IITs are – Kanpur, Madras, Kharagpur, Roorkee and Guwahati.

This year’s rankings show 4 new Indian universities namely National Institute of Technology (Rourkela), Sri Venkateswara University, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Tezpur University.

Oxford University has achieved the number one rank in the list and has become the first UK university to top Times rankings in the 12 years.California Institute of Technology has been ranked as the second best university in the world. As usual the top 10 ranks are dominated by the UK and US universities
