One of the most controversial subjects, Cannabis was legalized in quite a few prominent places in the world. Cannabis is also called marijuana. The cannabis plant has an age-old connection with the number 420 and on April 20 is also known as 420 day or 4:20 day or 4/20, it is a slang used in the relation to a cannabis culture of consumption of the drug around the time 4:20 pm on April 20.

The relevance of the day has a history attached to it. in 1997 five high school students Steve Capper, Dave Reddix, Jeffrey Noel, Larry Schwartz, and Mark Gravich– from San Rafael, California used the term in relation to a plan they had made to search for an abandoned cannabis crop.

Through a treasure map created by a person growing the crop, they got to know about the crop. The boys also decided 4:20 as their meeting time and found the unique name.

There is no denying to the fact that cannabis has its own sets of side effects but there are studies and real-life experiences that have analyzed that their health benefits related to cannabis also.

Ahead of this day, let’s look at the health benefit of cannabis

  • Helps to reduce stress and anxiety: cannabis can help in reducing stress and anxiety as it contains stress relieving agents that can have a positive effect psychologically. It is known to all that the leaf of cannabis causes a heightened mood or high feeling but it also helps in decreasing anxiety and increased social interaction as well. Hence consuming it in higher amount can lead to slower reaction times, impaired coordination and short term memory.
  • Helps in pain relief: cannabis is known to relieve pain both by applying or ingesting the leaf. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to relieve pain and tension from the body. The pain-relieving effects may last up to two hours.
  • Helps to control nausea: to relieve nausea, cannabis is used as it helps to relieve it. the nauseous feeling or puckish feeling can be controlled to a certain extent by cannabis.
  • Better than cigarettes: ingesting or smoking cannabis is said to be less harmful to the body in comparison to regular cigarettes.

Cannabis use is not legalized in India and even possessing weed or marijuana in India is an offense under the NDPS Act.  Cannabis has also been linked to the treatment of Autism.
