Navy official gets two year jail term for harassing minor girl

An Indian Navy personnel awarded two years in prison on Friday for outraging modesty of a minor girl through indecent and vulgar chat messages on social media in 2010. Besides, a fine of Rs 15,000 was also imposed on INS Shikra staffer Dilip Kumar by First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Moka Suvarna Raju.

The 33-year-old Kumar, working in Mumbai was sentenced after convicting for committing numerous crimes under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and section 509 of the Indian Penal Code that involves offence of outraging modesty of a woman.

The official was charged for acts of tempting a minor girl – a resident of Hyderabad. He asks her for online relationship but when she rejected, he began harassing her with objectionable messages.

The case was inspected by 11 prosecution witnesses, including outstation witnesses, FSL experts.
